Characterization of swelling materials

چکیده
Hydrogels are crosslinked macromolecular networks saturated by water solutions and they are an example of a swelling material. The behaviour of swelling materials can be described by a multi-component mixture model [1], which takes into account four components of the material: solid, liquid, cation and anion, together with their interactions. Hydrogels are very biocompatible because their characteristics are comparable with biomaterials. Their low mechanical strength can be increased by cross-linking and by reinforcement by fiber networks or inter-penetrating networks.

Synthesis, characterization and swelling behavior investigation of gelatin-g-Poly(Acrylic Acid-co-Itaconic Acid)
A novel pH-responsive superabsorbent hydrogel based on gelatin was prepared through crosslinking copolymerization of poly (acrylic acid) and poly (itaconic acid). The copolymerization conditions including monomers, initiator, gelatin and crosslinker concentration, reaction temperature, and neutralization percent were systematically optimized to achieve a hydrogel with swelling capacity as high ...
متن کاملSwelling Characterization of Nanocomposite Hydrogels of Poly (acrylamide-N-vinylimidazole)
In this study, a hydrogel composed of acrylamide (AAm) with N-vinylimidazole (NVI) as co-monomer, with a cross-linker such as N, N` Methylenebisacrylamide and potassium peroxodisulfate as an initiator solution was prepared. Poly (AAm/NVI) hydrogels were synthesized by free radical solution polymerization. Swelling experiments were performed in water at 25°C, gravimetrically. Here, it was of...
متن کاملA pH- and ionic strength-responsive polypeptide hydrogel: synthesis, characterization, and preliminary protein release studies.
A novel polypeptide hydrogel has been synthesized by crosslinking poly(L-glutamic acid) (PLG) with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). The PLG-PEG hydrogel was shown to be highly hydrophilic, and the extent of swelling varied with pH, increasing at higher ionization of the PLG. Aside from electrostatic effects, such as ion-ion repulsion and internal ion osmotic pressure, circular dichroism studies sho...
متن کاملSynthesis and characterization of new methacrylate based hydrogels
Hydrogels can be defined as polymers that present the ability to swell in water or aqueous systems, without dissolving in them (Blanco et al., 1994). This swelling versus not dissolving capacity is achieved by cross-linking the polymer structure. The development of hydrogels started in the beginning of the sixties, with the production of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) based polymers (Wichterl...

After gaining considerable expertise in establishing and exercising waste management strategy by immobilization of high-level radioactive liquid waste (HLW) in borosilicate glass matrix followed by its interim storage, it is envisaged to focus on geologic disposal of radioactive waste packages. The multi barrier disposal system is considered one of the options for isolation of radioactive waste...
